Episode 2 of Girls und Panzer was aired
last week. And the episode 3 is also aired this week. So, before it's
too late, let me review the 2nd episode of it, titled
“戦車、乗ります!

(Mini-HD encode by AnimeOut, fansub by Commie)
Previously, Miho, with her
tough heart, finally decide to take up the Tank-Arts. That's surprise
both of her friends, Saori and Hana. The student council also glad to
hear that. And in the next day, all of the members are gathered in
the school's backyard, which also located a school's tank garage.
What are they doing?
So, in this episode, the Tank-Arts club
girls just only have one tank in their school's tank garage. But, the
school council says that it suppose to be five tanks in total. So the
student council give an objective to the members to find another four
tanks, which the location is unknown.
The president sure know how to tease their students
That's a lot of R32 Skyline GT-R in the parking lot
Introducing Yukari Akiyama, the tank fanatic in their school
She sure has a pretty sharp nose
"Well then, panzer vor!"
"Pantsu aho!? (Pants fool!?)"
Just how's that possible for a tank missing in the high grounds like that
After they find all the tanks, the
student council decide to divide it by the one who found it, with the
student council also decide to operate the Panzer 38(t) which
actually founded by Miho and her friends. Thus Miho and her friends
assigned by the student council to operate the Panzer IV, the one in
the garage. And since the instructor of Tank-Arts will come tomorrow,
they also need to make their tanks clean by tomorrow.
Team A (Miho and Co.), operating the Panzer IV
Team B (Volley Club), operating the Type 89 "Otsu"
Team C (Reki-jou), operating the StuG III
Team D (Freshmen), operating the M3-Lee
Team E (Student Council), operating the Panzer 38(t)
Yeah, fan-service
After preparing the tank, Yukari
planned to go to a tank-related shop and inviting Miho, Saori, and
Hana to join her.
"I didn't even know this shop is exist". Yeah, I didn't even know this kind of shop is exist in real life either
Miho's sister, Maho Nishizumi, whose an expert in Tank-Arts
Looking at Miho down after
watching a news about Tank-Arts, which also broadcast her sister,
Saori have an idea to come over to Miho's place.
Wow, well prepared indeed
Ouch! Hana cut her own finger!
Next day, on the way to her school, Miho encounters Mako Reizei, a girl from her school who always feel sleepy.
Thanks to Mako, Miho also come late to school
Then, in the school's backyard, the
girls wait the instructor to come.
Just how insane is that, dropping a tank from a flying plane. Remember, don't ever try that in real life
Wow! Ferrari F40!

AAAAAARRRGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Meet the Tank-Arts instructor, Ami Chouno from the Tank Special Training Association
After Ami Chouno, the instructor,
finally arrive, she suddenly decide to do a full scale battle
training to the girls, which shocks everyone including student
council vice president.
She also surprised that Maho's little sister, Miho, enrolls to Oarai. Maho is her acquaintance by the way
This part tells that Nishizumi family has a Tank-Arts school, and it is famous among other Tank-Arts school
Internet, knows faster than you (?)
"If we do our best, we can resurrect the Volley Club!"
"Let's just forget the announcement of the abolishment!"
"Fight! OU!" That's the spirit
Don't cited this, people
Yahoo! Answers?
"Go Google it." LOL
Engine start!
Flawed. The shifter supposed to be move, but it doesn't
Engine died thanks to rough shifting
And the student council finally moves
The Engine starts again
And they're off....... backwards
That's close!
And they finally move out
Still finding the way to drive it
You need to give a sign to the driver if you want to turn, like that.....
After all the members reach their
starting point, the battle starts.
And the episode ends with Miho finding
Mako sleeping in the battlefield.
That's the end of the recap. Yeah, the
tank battle is finally start! And next episode is the continuation of
the battle. Now, my impression so far:
Girls finding tanks; something kinda
unusual
Yes, it's kinda unusual
for me even though the main theme is “girls with tanks”. It's not
like a group of girls finding a hidden treasure, which usually found in many
anime or manga. It's bigger than a treasure; something that you can
see clearly with your eyes (because it's big), but also something
that hard enough to find it (because it's strayed). And there's more,
tanks must supposed to be man's toys. So yeah, unusual. Just unusual.
“YEAH!!!” - Nice
gag is nice
There are several gags or
jokes here. And I found it quite funny. First is when Saori misheard
“Panzer vor! (spelled: パンツァーフォー!)”
into “Pantsu aho!? (Pants fool!?; spelled:
パンツあほ!?)”.
Just hear by the spelling, both are not quite different, don't they.
And finally, the famous “Go Google it (in Japanese: ググレカス;
Gugure kasu)”. Is very unexpected for that anime to add this kind
of joke, which usually found in many modern age comedy anime or manga
(ex: Hayate The Combat Buttler). I like it.
Hills and a swamp, on a ship?
As far as I know from the
geography lesson I got back from my school days (middle school and 1st year of high school), hills were made from an
inclining or declining one of the grounds, or a crash between a
higher ground and a lower ground, or a split between two grounds. And
a swamp is just a dirtier version of a lake found in the middle of
the rainforest. It's basically an earth nature. But in a ship, which
is basically not an earth, how's that possible? Even though they were
man made, just how long it will take to make those earth nature
things? Anime-logic...
“YEAH!!!” -
Fan-service spotted!
It's not like a usual
ecchi genre fan-service actually, or let's just say Strike Witches.
But that are pretty sure a fan-service. A wet scene when cleaning the
tank (yeah, Hana when wet is so lovely. LOL), the student council
vice president in bikini (SO SEXY! LOL), those are fan-services. I
think there will be a lot more fan-services next time. I'm sure about
that.
“YEAH!!!” - A
tank-related shop is indeed a nice addition to the show
This episode shows a shop
that sells everything about tank. From the spare parts, clothing, a
model kit, even a magazine! It's like a hobby shop for tank fanatic!
If I am a tank fanatic, I'm pretty sure I'll be excited to come
there. There's also a tank arcade game by the way.
“YEAH!!!” -
Japanese Type 10 Tank, the only modern tank in the
series...... so far
After several WWII tanks
cameo, finally the series has a modern tank. That tank start produce
in 2010, and starts service this year. So it's still fresh.
“NAAAH!!!” -
NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! THE FERRARI F40!!!!!!!!!!
I'm indeed a car fan. And
I do like to drive them. Then, the Ferrari F40 is my number one dream
car of all time. First produce in 1987, the car doesn't have any
electrical driving assist and electrical gizmos, and it's also very
lightweight, making the car feels like a Go-Kart. The car also the
fastest on that time thanks to the 2.9L twin turbo V8 engine
producing 471 HP, reaching the top speed of 324 km/h (201 mph). I'm
really want to drive it one day. And all the sudden, my dream of that
car suddenly blasted and crushed by a Japanese Type 10 Tank, ON
PURPOSE!!! ARGH, MY HEART!!! I can't stand of it....... (I'm not
joking, that sure really breaks my heart pretty badly)
Despite its theme, you can see how
struggling the girls are
to operate the tank
Operating a tank is
basically a man's job. Some woman actually do operating a tank, but
not much. Usually, they become a commander, a radio operator, or a
gunner; partly not a heavy task. Since this anime is about girls with
tanks, all of the operators are girls. And judging by the looks, I
can say they are so struggling. I ever watch a show called “Richard
Hammond's Crash Course” on BBC Knowledge (thanks to Indovision),
and the first episode is about operating a tank. After I watched it,
I can say operating a tank is indeed REEEAAAALLY hard. Then, after
watch this anime, I just surprise just how easy they operate the tank
even though they're struggling. And what's more, all of them are
girls! GIRLS! That just unbelievable. Well, anime-logic.
“NAAAH!!!” -
That's...... the end of the....... episode?
Yes, it is. And it did
surprise me. It feels awkward, it's like because the time slot is not
enough, they cut the scene and put it in the next episode. Then, what
makes it feel more awkward is that they didn't add some impact at the
end of the scene. After Miho says “abunai! (watch out!)”, then
the ending comes, and that's about it. They didn't put some effects
whatsoever to put more impact to it. Thankfully, the BGM makes the
scene more intense. But still, it feels awkward.
Extra - Same
storyline, different approaches
This anime, although is
stated as an original anime, is actually started with a manga. Both
the anime and the manga are having a different character focus, but
the settings are pretty much the same. In the manga, the character
focus is Yukari, that tank fanatic, instead of Miho. So, what's the
difference? Here it is. First, this episode recaps 3/4 part of the
manga's 1st chapter, with some extras. So, in the manga,
all of the main characters (Yukari, Miho, Saori, Hana, and Mako) are
already gathered before the Tank-Arts practice starts. While in the
anime, the characters that already gathered before practice are Miho,
Saori, Hana, and Yukari, whereas Mako hasn't take up the Tank-Arts
yet. That's the difference. There are several other differences
actually. But, despite that differences, the storyline is actually
the same. They do a tank search and they still do a battle practice.
In fact, several dialogs from the manga are actually the same as the
one in the anime. That difference kinda surprise me. Because in
beginning of the previous episode, they recap 1/4 part of the manga's
4th chapter. And they are exactly the same. While this
one, they are partly different.
Lots more impression I got
in this episode. Lots more tank battle to come. Lots more of BANG!
BANG! and CLANG! CLANG! action...... wait, why I do have to follow
those dialogues? Hehehe.....
The 3rd episode
is aired this week. And I'm pretty sure it will become a great
episode. Now then, see you in the next review.
